Computer
A full desktop operating system on an in-world laptop. 25 apps including an agency MDT and a Newsroom, a paired monitor and projector, an in-world camera with printable polaroids, per-computer identity, and an SDK for custom apps. Runs on ESX, QBCore, and QBox.
nx_computer is a desktop operating system that runs on a physical
laptop prop in the game world. Apps open in draggable, snappable
windows above a taskbar and a Start menu, with Alt+Tab cycling
between them, the way a real desktop behaves rather than a phone-style
app grid. Other players see the open laptop and its live screen over
your shoulder.
One player can run up to three displays at once: the laptop itself, a paired desk monitor, and a ceiling-mounted projector that throws a window onto the wall. Windows drag across from the laptop to the monitor, and any window can be cast to the projector. See the Displays guide for pairing and casting.
Features
- 25 apps. Banking, Markets (stock and crypto trading with limit orders, stop orders and price alerts), Finance, Messages, Email, Contacts, Meetings (video calls between laptops), Forums, a Browser with an in-game Website Builder, Jobs, Vehicles, Darknet, Casino, Notepad, Docs, File Explorer, Terminal, Calculator, Map, Photos, Settings, NX Store, the MDT, the Newsroom, and an admin Console. Each is summarized on the Apps page.
- An MDT for police-style jobs. An agency records terminal with cases, evidence and custody chains, warrants, permits, a duty roster, a tactical map, and an audit trail. Access follows the player's framework job and ranks mirror your job grades, so there is no second permission system to maintain. Setup is on the Installation page.
- A newsroom for the city. Reporters write and publish stories with
pictures, and editors post Breaking news that reaches every online
player. The jobs that get the app are set in
Config.Newsroom.Jobs. - Mail on your own domain. Every account has an address like
[email protected], with the domain taken from your server name or set inConfig.Mail.Domain. - Camera and polaroids. A camera item opens a photo mode whose shots land in the Photos app. Print mode mints a polaroid item that a player can hold up for others to see or place on a wall or table.
- Per-computer identity. Every laptop item instance is its own
computer: two laptops in the same pocket are two machines with
separate logins. PINs are hashed server-side and every protected
request is validated against a server-issued session. Fingerprint
unlock, on by default through
Config.BiometricUnlock, skips the PIN on laptops the account has already signed into. Details on the Security page. - Several accounts per character. A character can hold up to
Config.MaxAccountsPerCharacteraccounts (three by default), each with its own username, PIN, files, mail, and money. The primary account receives deliveries made while no laptop is open. - Laptops in vehicles. Use a laptop on your lap from a vehicle seat, or set one down on a bonnet, roof, boot, or flatbed. A laptop placed on a vehicle rides with it and stays usable while it moves.
- Phone bridge. When lb-phone is running, new mail and new Messages chats raise a phone notification, and photos taken on the phone appear in the laptop's Photos app. Neither needs any setup, and neither makes the phone a dependency.
- An SDK for your own apps. Any other resource can publish its
own app onto the desktop, or its own
.lcsite into the browser, with one export and no source edits. See the SDK section. - 10 languages. English, Suomi, Deutsch, Français, Português (Brasil),
Español, Türkçe, Nederlands, Italiano, and Polski, selected via
Config.Localewith a per-player override in Settings. - Immersive presence. A networked open laptop, a live screen for bystanders, ambient screen glow, an operator pose matched to the surface, and native GTA UI sounds.
Runs on your server
The markets, the map and the fonts run on your server. Markets are
simulated locally, so prices, candles, and charts need no data feed.
The Map ships its Atlas tiles with the resource; optional Satellite and
Grid styles can point at your own CDN through Config.MapTileCDN.
The resource reaches out only for features you turn on or use: FiveManage
uploads once you add a token in config_server.lua, Discord webhooks you
configure, a STUN server to connect meetings and live bodycam, and images
from hosts you allow. The full list is under
Network use.
Framework support
Set Config.Framework to match your server. The laptop item itself is
registered in ox_inventory on every framework, since ox_inventory is
a hard dependency.
Where to go next
- Installation: dependencies, items, ACE setup, and the banking backend.
- Configuration: every owner-editable option.
- SDK: publish your own apps and browser sites onto the laptop.
